About
I am an evolving practitioner born among tension between worlds. I am the child of refugees, but born in the United States. I am a child of poverty who grew up in an upper middle class suburb. I am an American who is not quite Chinese enough. I am ethnically Chinese from a family that fled Vietnam. I am assimilated to American culture and learning where I fit into the AAPI community. I am a first generation student with the support of a second generation. I am a strong, vocal woman who was encouraged to be seen and not heard. I belong everywhere and nowhere. I am a bridge between spaces.
Philosophy
I align with ethics that value individuals for what they contribute to the world and their needs, promote empathy and growth, and challenge systems of inequity and inequality. I strive to create supportive and flexible environments for students and educators that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Every human being has intersectionality that cannot be confined to just one role or aspect. Students are not just students. Educators are not just educators. Families are not just families. Each individual brings their own unique history, experiences, and perspectives to any situation. Those experiences and perspectives should be celebrated and valued as they enrich the experiences and perspectives of others and elevate the collective learning experience. Active and sustainable change is achieved when psychological safety, trust, mutual respect, and understanding of one another is at the foundation of collaboration.
Education
I earned my B.A. in Sociology-Anthropology with an Economics minor from Skidmore College, M.A./Ed.S. in School Psychology from Tufts University, and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership K-12 from Endicott College. Dissertation: Presentations of teacher agency in racialized discipline practices: A critical inquiry.
